Positions Available: Positions available for 2-1/2 -3-1/2 year old and 4-5 year old preschool programs. Permanent, full or part-time positions available. Education: Successful candidates will be professionally prepared as an early childhood educator. Bachelor's degree in elementary education or early childhood education preferred. Candidates with an Associate's degree in a related field and experience in a preschool setting will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree. All candidates must meet the Commonwealth of Virginia requirements for preschool teachers. Experience: One year of early childhood education experience desirable. Familiarity with A Beka™, Alpha Omega™ and Saxon Math™ curricula is a plus. Duties and Responsibilities: All teachers report to the Academy’s Director of Educational Services and are responsible for the general supervision and management of each class of preschool children assigned. In addition, teachers are responsible for: - Planning, supervising and executing the educational program in accordance with the philosophy, purpose and goals of the Academy
- Creating a challenging, stimulating and engaging learning environment for all students through the use of creative and innovative teaching methods
- Planning and implementing appropriate early childhood educational experiences using a variety of materials and media
- Supervising and promoting activities designed to enhance the healthy, emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of each student
- Helping children establish good habits of personal hygiene
- Helping children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group
- Maintaining records of each child’s growth and development; preparing quarterly student progress reports for review with supervisors and parents
- Conducting regular formal and/or informal parent/teacher conferences on each child's school adjustment, classroom behavior, and developmental progress and attending quarterly student/parent meetings and Academy functions
- Effectively training, supervising, and utilizing program aides and volunteers
- Assisting with transporting children to playground, maintaining order and supervising all activities to ensure safety during travel to and from and while at playground
- Contributing to staff in-service training by planning, leading, or assisting in a workshop presentation or by developing appropriate resources
- Participating in professional organizations that seek to enhance/improve early childhood education
- Serving as floor warden with regard to emergencies at the Academy
- Maintaining required certifications (i.e., CPR/First Aid, etc.)

Work Environment/Physical Demands: Daily activities will be primarily performed in the center environment. Occasionally, the Academy will sponsor activities outside of the center’s environment (i.e., field trips, community activities). Successful candidates must be able to lift 30 pounds, stand most of the day, bend, stoop and sit on floor and have the dexterity and agility to move from various positions throughout the day and perform all activities with children, which may include, but are not limited to, standing, jumping, walking, running, etc. for an extended time period. Daily activities will also be performed outdoors, weather permitting. Successful candidates must be able to withstand outdoor weather conditions for regular periods of time. Candidates must be able to monitor a variety of activities simultaneously and adapt to ever-changing situations and environments. We will make every attempt to maintain an agreed upon schedule, however, successful candidates should be flexible with regard to scheduling based on the needs of the Academy and its students.
